About Zainab Rahim
A Journey Shaped by History
Born in 1947, just two years after the end of World War II, Zainab Rahim grew up during a period of profound change. Raised by a Chinese mother and a father with Indian roots in colonial Singapore, she experienced a society shaped by cultural divisions, social inequalities and diverse religious traditions. These early experiences gave her a unique perspective on identity, resilience and the power of the human mind to overcome limitations.
Breaking Barriers Through Education
Determined to challenge limiting beliefs, Zainab became part of the pioneering generation of Malay-educated students who pursued English undergraduate studies at the University of Singapore. Graduating among the top students in her class in 1970, she demonstrated how education could open doors and transform lives.

A Distinguished Broadcasting Career
Zainab went on to build an accomplished 35-year career with Singapore’s national broadcasting service, producing and managing current affairs programmes during Singapore’s formative years under Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew’s leadership.
Her commitment to excellence led to professional journalism training at the BBC in London, the Radio Netherlands Training Centre, and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. In 2001, she led her Malay language broadcasting team to international recognition with an award at the New York International Radio Festival.
From Broadcaster to Counsellor
After leaving broadcasting in 2005, Zainab embarked on a new chapter dedicated to personal development, counselling and lifelong learning. Building upon decades of experience in communication, she expanded her expertise into financial education, emotional wellbeing and human development.
As an author, counsellor and trainer, Zainab has spent years helping individuals and organisations strengthen effective communication, navigate change and overcome limiting beliefs. Drawing upon her background in the social sciences and her practical experience, she empowers people to improve relationships, develop emotional resilience and adapt confidently to an ever-changing world.
She also served as a counsellor-trainer with the Tsao Foundation’s Financial Literacy Programme, where she helped participants develop healthier perspectives on money, personal responsibility and emotional wellbeing. Through workshops, coaching and practical guidance, she has supported countless individuals in transforming challenges into opportunities for personal growth.
Combining her expertise in communication, counselling and emotional empowerment, Zainab continues her mission of helping people reprogramme their mindset, strengthen human connections and lead purposeful, resilient lives.

Understanding the Mind and Emotions
Zainab believes the family is the foundation of society and plays the most significant role in shaping a child’s future. During the formative years, values such as compassion, integrity, courage and resilience are cultivated, providing children with the confidence to thrive in an ever
changing world.
She is particularly passionate about preparing future generations to navigate the challenges of the Digital and Artificial Intelligence age with wisdom, empathy and strong character.
A Legacy of Empowerment
For Zainab, true success is measured not only by personal achievements but by the values passed on to future generations. Through love, education and emotional empowerment, she has seen these principles reflected in her own family.
Her son has served for more than a decade as a Managing Director at one of the world’s leading international banks in China, while her daughter pursued excellence in ballet, receiving opportunities from prestigious academies in Hong Kong and England. These accomplishments reflect the enduring impact of resilience, discipline and lifelong learning.
A Defining Moment
One of the defining moments in Zainab’s broadcasting career came in 1997 when she covered the social unrest in Indonesia during the Asian Financial Crisis. Witnessing communities torn apart by fear, uncertainty and conflict left a lasting impression on her and reinforced the importance of social cohesion and resilient leadership.
Upon returning to Singapore, Zainab requested an interview with Singapore’s founding Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew, who was then serving as Senior Minister. She asked whether similar circumstances could happen in Singapore’s multiracial society.
His response was clear and memorable:
| “No, our young are better educated now than ever.”
The interview was subsequently broadcast on Mediacorp and its regional station, Radio Singapore International (RSI). For Zainab, the conversation became more than a news story—it reaffirmed her belief that education, values and emotional resilience are essential foundations for a peaceful and harmonious society. This experience continues to shape her work in communication, counselling and emotional empowerment today.
Leading From Within
Drawing from a lifetime of experiences spanning colonial Singapore, national broadcasting, counselling, financial education and family life, Zainab continues to share practical wisdom through her books, speaking engagements and educational work.
Her mission is to help individuals reprogramme their mindset—from fear, division and limitationtowards love, resilience, peace and purpose—so they can lead meaningful lives and contribute positively to future generations.
